A new hobby

A new hobby

I've always had a desire to learn to sew and I recently found a lovely class where, after making a basic bag in the first class, we could make whatever we liked for the remaining three weeks with our teachers assistance. I choose to make a tea dress from the Great British Sewing Bee book (season one), it was a little too big for me but I learnt so many techniques.I was going to alter it but I was just so proud of my first project I decided to make it again (and I had bought far to much fabric).  The second dress is nearly finished and I'm just waiting for my new sewing machine to arrive so I can insert the zip, I'm currently using a john lewis mini pink machine which is great but now I think I'm ready for a grown up machine.

I wasn't brave enough to use Cath Kidson fabric but I did buy some buttons

I made this little brooch with some left over fabric and a vintage button and a little help from pinterest, and my cuttlebug was so quick cutting out the circles.

Here is a dress I made for one of my best friends little girls 1st birthday, the gorgeous pattern is the good deeds dress and was ideal for a learner like me.

and a quick birthday card (well not so quick) made using my silhouette

Finally a belated 2nd birthday for Miss Maggie, she was poorly on her birthday and had to stay in the vets but we made up for a week later (she didn't seem to impressed).

Saturated canary: A beautiful world

Saturated canary: A beautiful world

Isn't she the most gorgeous digi, and she was perfect for my best friends birthday.

The image was coloured with promarkers and a hint of stickles, papers are Docrafts 'All aboard' range, the butterfly was a freebie from a magazine and the sentiment I bought when we were both in australia together 10 years ago (I'm a hoarder)

I'd like to enter the following challenges please x

Here is Miss Maggie enjoying the bluebells in the forest.

Finally, the box card craze got me too. Here is are two I made from the Sil store, one for my god-daughter and one for her brother x

poser Maggie (sorry no crafting today)

We had a photo shoot yesterday so my boyfriend could have a portrait of Maggie for his office, for his birthday(he's that difficult to think of ideas for), it was so much fun and I can't believe how well her photos turned out. Best of all my boyfriend loved them.

I hope you liked them, if anyone local is looking for a great photographer I'd highly recommend Lawrence from Snappitt Photography Belfast

Its time for me to give something back to help others x

I know i've been quiet on here but its not often that someone pulls at your heart strings, driving to work one sunday morning last year I passed a young man sleeping rough in the city centre, as I sat at the lights he looked up at me and smiled, a warm kind smile. I couldn't stop thinking about him and often watched out for him, sometimes he was there and other days he wasn't, but it got me thinking about what I could do to make a difference for someone like him in that situation.

Initially I was going to just do the Belfast City Marathon Fun Run, but in this day and age I thought it would be nice to give people something nice in return for their donation, so this year I'm going to use my hobby to raise money for the 'Welcome Organisation' and make packs of cards.

Here are some of the cards I've made so far:

I'm still doing the fun run and any sponsorship would be amazing.

Visit my facebook page to order and to follow how I'm getting on and I have a just giving page if you would like to give a little something to this great cause please donate here x

thanks so much Kathy and Maggie x

Happy Crafty 2014

Happy Crafty 2014 Everyone

I've had a very quiet time lately when it come to crafting, between a poorly puppy, a birthday holiday and of course christmas. I'm ashamed to say that I didn't make one single christmas card!! (I did buy charity ones though so thats no so bad).

I'd really like to share with you the little crafty bits I did make, after posting a picture of the butterfly in a crafty group on facebook a lovely lady asked if i could make one for her mum for christmas, this time in blues and lilacs. I loved the combination of colours, and best of all her mum loved it.

My other project was a 3D bauble for one of my best friends new baby, I bought a photo bauble from home bargains and used my cameo silhouette to make a 3D penguin (purchased from the silhouette store) and the lettering. With a little help from my facebook friends I eventually managed to cut the letters on a curve. Originally I had planned to use a 3D snowflake inside but the lettering got lost. The little gems in the bottom of the globe also came from home bargains and contain a couple I had saved from my friends wedding (use crafty girls are such magpies). My friend was so made up when I gave it to her.

Miss Maggie

Maggie has been busy since I last blogged and a little bit naughty, she thought that eating a sock would be a tasty idea, unfortunately this time it didn't pass through and got stuck in her bowel. Thankfully the vet was a amazing and after a worrying few weeks shes back to her cheeky self.

Feeling very sorry for herself

We thought Maggie should get a part-time job at Wagamama to contribute towards the vet bill hee hee (she preferred it to her cone of shame)

Happy belated christmas from Maggie and I x

Thanks for popping by and heres to more crafting in 2014
